Challenge

The UF/IFAS Nature Coast Biological Research Facility was set to be constructed, but soil tests determined that structural support would be required before the building could go up. Specifically, compression loads were needed everywhere except the elevator pit, which called for tension loads. Fulfilling the need for improved load strength proved to be a challenge since the worksite had tight access. Weather also proved to be an obstacle to overcome due to Hurricane Hermine rolling through Florida at the time of the pre-construction work. In addition, the challenge of getting any type of grout needed on the remote site in a timely manner would need to be overcome.
